For the second year in a row, Urban Electric Power participated in The Battery Show 2016, co-located with the Critical Power Expo and Electric & Hybrid Vehicle Technology Expo at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, MI.
This year's show was larger than last year's, and was a great opportunity to meet with vendors, manufacturers, integrators, and financiers of energy storage. Many of our staff members attended the event, and we had a booth which featured samples and more information about our Zinc Manganese Dioxide batteries.
On Monday, Urban Electric Power participated in a roundtable discussion on expanding export opportunities in Westchester County and the Lower Hudson Valley. The attendees included our Director of Operations, Ann Marie Scuderi, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, a member of President Obama’s Export Council, Fred P. Hochberg, the chairman and president of the Export-Import (EXIM) Bank of the United States, and Congresswoman Nita Lowey.
Last week was the Electric & Hybrid Marine World Expo, held at the Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Participants from around the world presented cutting edge electric & hybrid marine propulsion technologies, including microturbines, drive control systems, emission reduction technologies, fuel cell technology, and energy storage solutions.
Urban Electric Power had a booth at the event, where we showcased our clean, affordable, and safe zinc manganese batteries.
This past weekend, almost 200 world leaders signed a historic climate agreement, with a main goal of keeping the average global temperature from rising more than 2 degrees Celsius from pre-industrial levels by 2100. The document also includes the ambition to keep the temperature below 1.5 degrees Celsius if possible.
Here are highlights from the first week of the Climate Summit in Paris. World leaders spent the week making speeches and holding sessions to fund the expansion of renewable energy and sustainability, setting the stage for week two, where high-level negotiations will take place.
In recent years, cities across the United States have responded with climate action plans to help spark a sustainable transformation. One major feature of this shift is the installation of green roofs on buildings, which are useful for waste diversion, storm-water management, energy efficiency, roof durability, noise reduction, and moderating the Urban Heat Island Effect. This week, we explore different green roofs which have been installed throughout New York City.
Last week, hundreds professionals descended upon the San Diego Convention Center for the 2015 Energy Storage North America Expo. The three days of events consisted of workshops, forums, site tours, speeches, and networking receptions. Each day had three different tracks, including Distributed Storage, Hot Markets, Utility, Finance, Grid Services, and Technology.
This week, we explore the R-951 Residence in Brooklyn, NY. This three story building is the first of it's kind in New York City, earning the NYSERDA Energy Star, Passive House and Net-Zero Certification.
We must use the technology available to us to transition to a more sustainable way of living, and we are starting to see this evolution take place. Here on the UEP blog, we want to focus on different examples of how clean technology can promote sustainable living, much like our zinc-manganese dioxide batteries.
We begin this week with P.S. 62, the first ever net-zero school in New York City designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, which opened for classes this month in Staten Island:
